CUNEO William (Bill)

William (Bill) Cuneo first commenced duties with the Gnowangerup Road Board as Secretary on 28th May 1934 and apart from two and a half years during World War 11, when he served with the 4th Field Mapping Section R.A.E. in the A.I.F. as a topographical engineer, he was employed as Shire Clerk and Engineer until his retirement on the 30th June 1965. Even then he was persuaded by the Council to carry as Engineer for the further six months.
Prior to coming to Gnowangerup, Mr. Cuneo resided in the south west where he was employed from 1924-29 as Works Supervisor of the Upper Blackwood and Bridgetown Road Boards. From 1929 until 1934 Mr. Cuneo held the post of Secretary to that Road Board.
To carry on the colossal task of Secretary/Engineer in a district of 4034 square miles, most of which was in the early stages of development, required courage, foresight and determination and judging by the results, Gnowangerup and districts have been well served by a man of undaunted spirit, whose aim was to go forward.
